For the first time Autocenter Summer Academy will happen in the form of an excursion: It will take place in the Ruhr region in Germany; more precisely: in the renowned HMKV exhibition space in the Dortmunder U. This year's program will once again offer participants a rich combination of practical and theoretical knowledge. A unique atmosphere will allow for formal critical and personal discussion with a wide selection of hand picked international experts drawn from all fields of art. In addition, the ACSA will provide new insights to the art world, its institutions, and its active discourse.
For ACSA 2016 @HMKV, a two-week program has been created. Participants can choose how long they wish to attend, and in turn select from two different week-long courses designed and run by internationally acclaimed artists. Each course has a maximum of 15 participants, which will give each student the opportunity to develop their artistic practice and theory over the course of the week. The course is set up to allow each student the maximum ability to converse and interact with their teacher – while at the same time exploring the region and its incredible industrial heritage.
In addition to the set course, each week’s schedule includes two lectures and an excursion led by expert journalists, and curators. The guided tours will enable personal studio visits and trips to galleries and art institutions. At the end of every week on Saturday evening a public presentation will be held in the HMKV exhibition space (the 3rd floor of the Dortmunder U).
This year again we are adding a one-week hands-on curating class. Architect and art critic Thibaut de Ruyter will run it again after its huge success in 2015. Together, with up to 12 participants, he will focus on the actual process of exhibition making.
